Riquel Olander - Guest Instructor
Most recognizable for being an integral part of the all female dance crew 'We Are Heroes', Riquel, aka 'Riqi', is no stranger to hard work and perseverance... which has paid off in so many ways.
Riquel helped 'We Are Heroes' make history in 2009, by becoming the first all-female dance crew to win 'Randy Jackson Presents: American Best Dance Crew'. Her road to this monumental accomplishment started at an early age, in the town of Twin Falls, Idaho. She trained in all styles ranging from tap to belly dance... she quickly realized that dance was her true passion. After high school she decided to move to LA, in order to capitalize on more opportunities, train with the best and pursue a career in dance.
It didn't take long for her to get recognized... as she landed a feature dance role in the music video "Blame It" by Jamie Foxx, featuring T-Pain. Since then her career has not stopped. She was hired by Disney as a guest star to perform weekly at the amazing set up of elecTRONica. Not only has she had the pleasure of working with artists such as Ciara, Kimberly Locke and Jason Derulo, but she has also assisted amazing choreographers like NappyTabs and Ro Ro.
Riquel's various television appearances include: Oprah, Ellen, EXTRA, Alexa Chung on MTV (specifically to perform as a surprise for Rihanna herself), SYTYCD Season 7 (assisting NappyTabs), E! News, as well as returning to the ABDC stage (she was the 'face' of the Top 3 challenge in season 5, the "New Orleans Bounce" challenge). Also, along with the lovely ladies of 'We Are Heroes', she collaborated with former ABDC champions The Jabbawockeez, Super Crew, Quest Crew, andPoreotix for the Champions of Charity ABDC special, and then again for season 6 for superstars finale.
Along with performing, her passion extends to choreography and teaching. She continues to travel the world sharing her unique style and hopes to influence students and dancers for many years to come.
She has privately trained artists like Jason Derulo and Kimberly Locke, and has worked side by side with Randy Jackson choreographing artists and groups signed to his label, ‘Dream Merchant’. She has taught at studios like: Debbie Reynolds (CA), Burbank School of Ballet (CA), IDA Hollywood (CA), and All Star Cheer (ID). One of her favorites ways of spreading her unique style has been teaching at conventions and Master classes all over the US and abroad.
